2021 Year of the Body TransformationFor me, 2021 will be a year of transformation.  As those of you who follow my blog know, I am a bit rotund.  Before Christmas, I got tired of it and pledged to get down to what my doctor considers fighting weight.  I must lose forty-seven pounds.

I will still stick to my traditional New Year’s resolutions:

  • Be positive. (It’s been hard to do, lately.  I’ll have to concentrate on it more.)
  • Give back.
  • Learn new things.
  • Write.

The only reason I’m even mentioning my weight loss plan is that the system I’m using, Noom, says I need to share my goals with others.  Gulp.  So, now you know.  I’ve shared it.

My motivation comes from all the things I want to do such as travel and learn new things.  Also, I’m tired of my borderline high cholesterol and achy feet.  Hopefully, I’ll soon allow them to carry a lighter load.

The good news is that I’ve already lost ten pounds.  Thirty-seven more to go.

The most difficult part so far is cooking healthy foods.  My husband isn’t joining me in this endeavor.  Since he’s been the chief cook and I’ve been the bottle washer for years, I’m not used to preparing my own meals.  I love eating them, thankfully.  The other big problem is that martinis call my name.

Noom urges you to build new habits with the idea that once established, the behaviors become second nature.  Luckily, I’m reading the book, Atomic Habits, by James Clear.  For anyone looking to fulfill their New Year’s resolutions, I highly recommend it.

He asserts that to develop habits, you have to change your mindset.  If you want to be a writer, you call yourself a writer and develop habits that support that mindset.  The habits are the processes that move you closer to your goal.

I’ll keep you posted, occasionally, on how my new mindset—I’m a healthy person—works.
